Zundamon (ずんだもん) is a Japanese vocal synthesizer character developed and distributed by SSS LLC. since May 2017. Since then, she has received voicebanks for UTAU, released in May 2017, VOICEVOX (August 2021) and NEUTRINO (August 2022), as well as a VOICEPEAK text-to-speech library (developed in collaboration with AH-Software Co. Ltd.) that is not sold as a standalone product, but rather bundled with VOICEPEAK products Tohoku Zunko (released in January 2023), Tohoku Kiritan (released in June), and Tohoku Itako (released in October). She received a CeVIO AI Song Voice and a VoiSona Song Voice in June 2024, also distributed by AH-Software.

She has also been released on voice conversion software, such as Seiren Voice, in November 2022.

Her voice is provided by the Japanese voice actress Itou Yuina (伊(い)藤(とう)ゆいな), who also voices Mitarashi Mary from jamBAND, the music band which Tsurumaki Maki belongs to.

Concept

Zundamon is a zunda-mochi sprite who is capable of transforming into Zunko's "Zunda Arrow". She also carries a somewhat unlucky attribute and often goes under everyone's radar, unnoticed.

Zundamon may be a portmanteau of "zunda-mochi" and "monster".

Her mascot form, which debuted in 2014, is used for her UTAU voicebank.

• Fur color - Mostly white, with light green on top of her head, on her ears, and on the end half of her tail, and pale pink on her paws. In addition, each one of her ears also has three lighter-green round spots, overall resembling edamame beans in their pods.
• Eyes - Black.

Bishoujo form

Zundamon can transform into a human at will. Her human form, called bishoujo (美(び)少(しょう)女(じょ)) and which debuted in 2021, is used for her later voicebanks.

Zundamon has short bobbed green hair with a long skinny ponytail that looks like the tail from her mascot design. Two ear-like antennae sit atop her head. She has bright yellow eyes, and pink rosy cheeks.

In her VOICEVOX design (which was also retained as her VOICEPEAK design), she wears a white puff sleeved top, green overalls, and green short boots with pink soles and lime green fringe. Around her collar is a pink ribbon with an edamame bean clasp.

In her NEUTRINO design, she wears a cheerleader’s outfit, with a lime green pleated miniskirt with pink pleats, a white top with pink sleeves and a lime green stripe near the collar, and vibrant green high tops with pink soles and trim. In each hand, she holds a neon green pompom.

In her Seiren Voice design, Zundamon wears a forest green blazer and tube skirt, black tights, and black high heels. She holds a gray clipboard in her left hand, and a Zundamon pen in her right. Two pink barrettes are clipped in her bangs.

History

2010s

Zundamon first made an appearance on April 10, 2014 on Zunko's official homepage.

In June 2016, SSS LLC., in collaboration with WAO Corporation and Studio Live, applied for the young animator development project "Anime Tamago 2017"; they were selected as the commissioned production organization. The film was animated under the title Zunda Horizon (ずんだホライずん). As requested by the commissioning organization, it was produced in full animation, as were the other animations. It also introduced five singing songs –all made in vocal synthesizers like VOCALOID for Zunko and UTAU for all other characters–, some of which featured musical-style performances.

On January 13, 2017, Zunko's Twitter account asked fans if there was anyone who would like to produce a demo song with Zundamon, should the latter ever had an UTAU.

On February 11, the anime film's full cast of characters and their voice actresses was published; it listed Zundamon as being voiced by Itou Yuina, although there she would have no speech lines other than "nano da", as remarked by a later tweet posted after the fact. On March 11, a completion announcement screening for Zunda Horizon was held at Ikebukuro HUMAX Cinemas along with three other films, followed by a late show screening at Theatre Shinjuku from April 22 to April 28, and an in-flight screening on JAL. The UTAU soundtrack recorded for the anime was also released, featuring demo songs of various of the new characters. Zundamon's voicebank recording was completed on March 12.

On May 9, the anime was released on YouTube and NicoNico for free for a month, and the production story was broadcast on Studio Live's channel. A crowdfunding campaign was also conducted for this anime; if a certain percentage was to be achieved, then the next production would be considered. Zundamon's UTAU, produced under the direction of Higenashi (also known as Higeoex), was released as a free download on May 21 along with the debut on NicoNico and YouTube of her demo song "Sweet Green".

2020

On July 3, 2020, a crowdfund campaign for an AI singing voicebank for Tohoku Itako on the NEUTRINO engine was launched; its second stretch goal (which was met at 217%) included funding for talk voicebanks for both Zundamon and Shikoku Metan (Zunko's classmate) on the VOICEVOX text-to-speech engine, which was still under development.

2021

On July 31, 2021, the first demo of Zundamon and Metan talking on VOICEVOX was published by Zunko; the next day, VOICEVOX went live online, and Zunko encouraged her followers to give it a try and play with Metan and Zundamon's voices there. On October 9, their VOICEVOX banks were announced to receive a major update soon.

2022

On February 1, 2022, a crowdfund campaign for Zundamon to receive her own AI singing voicebank for NEUTRINO, as well as a Whisper mode for her VOICEVOX, was announced; it was set to begin on February 9. After the campaign's main goal (and all its four stretch goals, which included not only a Whisper mode for VOICEVOX Shikoku Metan but also a NEUTRINO version of Metan) were met, AI Zundamon (as her NEUTRINO was dubbed, following the same pattern as the Tohoku sisters' NEUTRINO voicebanks) and her VOICEVOX's Whisper mode were developed, completed, and set for release on August 1; crowdfund backers received both early on July 18 but were told to postpone publishing their works with them until the general public release date.

In November, on AH-Software's YouTube channel, Zunko's demo video for VOICEPEAK (an AI talking software co-developed by AH-Software and Dreamtonics Co., Ltd.) announced that Zundamon would be included with Zunko as a bonus voicebank (along with Frimomen); they were expected to be released in December but later delayed to January 2023.

2024

Zundamon and Shikoku Metan were announced on May 21, 2024 to be receiving Song Voices for the CeVIO AI engine; pre-orders were opened for both of them at the AHS Store, with release date set for June 18. They were also announced for the VoiSona Song engine.

Marketing

In October 2023, Zundamon and her voice provider Itou Yuina launched ZunPARAdio (ずんパラじお), a weekly live-broadcast radio program on NicoNico Channel.
