Zhiyu Moke (徵羽摩柯) is a Mandarin Chinese VOCALOID developed and distributed by Shanghai HENIAN Co. Ltd. He was released for the VOCALOID4 engine in August 2018.[1]
Moke was a runner up entry to the first "VOCALOID™ CHINA" contest in 2012, held for choosing the design of the first Mandarin Chinese VOCALOID and was a Vsinger supporting character for four years.[2] On December 8, 2016, Moke was confirmed to be in production along with Mo Qingxian.[3]
His voice provider is Su Shangqing (苏尚卿; Sū Shàngqīng), a Chinese voice actor from 729 Studio.
In May 2023, Moke was confirmed to be receiving an AI voicebank for ACE Virtual Singer.[4]
Concept[]
According to the short animation series promoting VOCALOID CHINA, Moke is a genius with an IQ of 168. Even though he always wears an innocent and warming smile, he is actually the most Otaku of all Otaku. By starting threads in forums, editing, and uploading MVs, he is seen as a "god" by some people on the internet. He is sometimes mistaken as a girl; although he claims that he hates this, there are unconfirmed rumors of a popular cross-dressing cosplayer appearing in various comic conventions who looks very similar to him. Because he usually doesn't talk, most people will take him as a "nice boy", but he will reveal his true Otaku self when he is with close friends. He acts somewhat like a professional debater when talking about anime or other Otaku topics, but tends to react poorly to subjects that do not interest him.[5]
In 2017, according to Shanghai HENIAN's official website, Moke is listed as a Sagittarius and that he is mixed race. It was later added that he is a high school student and that he is good at street dance. It also mentions that he fears loneliness. He has a sense of dependency on the others in the band and wishes to be useful to them.[6][7] In 2018, it was confirmed that his official birthday is December 10.[8]
Etymology[]
His original name was MOKO.
Zhǐ (徵) and yŭ (羽) are the fourth and fifth notes of the ancient Chinese pentatonic scale. His first name, Mókē (摩柯), originates in Buddhism (摩柯婆罗多 Mókēpóluóduo, i.e. Mahabharata).
Appearance[]
The design was originally drawn by SAKU, but was refined and redrawn by illustrator ideolo.
Located on Moke’s hip in his debut design, there is a green charm with a Devanagari letter "च" (ca) which represents the "Metal" element, the "West" position, the color "white", and the "Autumn" season. This character’s Chinese equivalent is "商" (Shāng), one of the 5 Traditional Chinese melody characters which corresponds to D (re).[9]
Moke's V4 design was illustrated by TID. His color scheme changed from white and light blue to white and dark blue. His new design was more sailor-inspired compared to the debut design. His pants were white rather than black and his boots became lace-up with the Devanagari letter located on the sides. His hat has a keyboard and soundwave design on it.

ACE Virtual Singer Development[]
On May 6, 2023, it was announced that Yuezheng Longya, Mo Qingxian, and Zhiyu Moke would be receiving AI voice libraries and would be produced one after another.[10] On October 16, Vsinger thanked everyone for their support and suggestions during the past closed and public betas of the available voicebanks at the time (Tianyi, YANHE, Ling, and Longya). The official version of ACE Studio was expected to launch globally soon, and it was announced that the all six Vsinger vocalists would be free for ACE Studio users. ACE Studio users would be able to apply for free Vsinger redemption codes through the official Vsinger website. [11]
On September 12, 2024, Vsinger announced that AI Zhiyu Moke closed beta test applications for ACE Virtual Singer were open. The registration would be open from then until September 30. The rules were detailed as followed:[12]
- AI Zhiyu Moke's beta test would only open for producers, tuners, and musicians interested in voice synthesizers. Applicants needed to fill in the relevant information, including personal information and portfolio works.
- Users who already participated in the ACE Virtual Singer beta applications for the previous Vsinger characters did not need to repeat the process for Moke. Approved users would be sent an invitation through the official email account.
- The ACE Studio editor was required to use the library. All participants would receive a 14-day membership trial period for the ACE Studio software, which they can use to test Moke's voicebank.
- Commercial use of the library was prohibited.
- The final decisions of the event were to be made only by Shanghai HENIAN.
On September 24, a design contest was announced and launched. The contest was confirmed to end on December 27. Vsinger accompanied the announcement with a question: "Let the piano keys ring out like poetry, gracefully transcending this endless time, and use this transformative sound to sing once again. These pure-white wings have not yet finished forming, so please use your boundless passion and imagination to construct my new life with your art". Designs were encouraged to be tagged with "#徵羽摩柯AI形象征集活动#" and were to be submitted in the link provided by the company. The final design would be selected via fans' voting and it was encouraged for fans to register an account in preparation for the future poll. The first round of voting was scheduled from December 30, 2024 to January 3, 2025 and the final round was scheduled from January 6 to January 9, 2025. It was noted in the rules that the design must be original and must not have been used for other commercial purposes or authorized to use by third parties.[13]
On December 30, the voting period began and voters could choose only one design out of 62 submissions. The top ten works in the first round would enter the final round. The work with the highest number would become the ACE Virtual Singer design for Moke.[14] On January 6, the ten final designers were announced to be Shuixing (水星), moya, Nollipap, Li Beng Yue Huai (礼崩乐坏), migu, Ti Zi (提子), Su Su Ba Tu (酥酥巴土), Cheng Ling (程零), Yizi (依子), and Lan Yue (蓝月). Final voting was expected to close on January 9.[15] On January 11, moya was announced as the winning designer with a total of 967 votes. The finalized version of the design may be adjusted accordingly.[16]
Marketing[]
Zhiyu Moke was a fan-designed VOCALOID that was entered in the first "VOCALOID CHINA" contest, like Luo Tianyi. He was created with VOCALOID fans in mind.
VOCALOID CHINA PROJECT released a five-part promotional animation series for the VOCALOID CHINA characters. On May 15, 2012, at CFO3, the full first PV was made available, mainly featuring Tianyi with Ling making a brief cameo at the end. Moke’s official introduction takes place in the third episode.
Prior to his release, Moke make an appearance at the Vsinger Live concert on June 17, 2017.[17] His voicebank made its debut with the song "Xūnǐ Shàonián". He was also scheduled to appear at bilibili Macro Link 2018 on July 20 with the rest of the Vsinger cast.[18]

Both Moke and Mo Qingxian have overall been released to a lukewarm reception compared to past vocals with very little interest or overall excitement. In the Chinese fandom, Moke and Longya’s popularity levels were undefined as they were about equal to each other. In the Eastern fandom, Moke appeared in less fanart and PVs than Longya.In the Western fandom, fans voiced a like for him, and he had more fanart and support compared to Longya and Qingxian in this part of the fandom.
Since his and Qingxian's release in August 2018, Moke received the most works, both original and cover songs, between the two of them.
In August 2019, "Zài Yībēi!" was the first song featuring Moke to reach 1 million views.
Trivia[]
- Considering that YANHE's voicebank was meant to be made for Moke, he would have been the first Mandarin Chinese male VOCALOID to be released. This was fulfilled by Yuezheng Longya instead.
- Extensively, the voicebank would have been the first male Mandarin Chinese VOCALOID voiced by a female voice provider.
