Yuzuki Yukari (結月ゆかり) is a vocal synth character developed by VOCALOMAKETS and historically distributed by AH-Software Co. Ltd.. She was initially released in December 2011 for the VOICEROID+ and VOCALOID3 engines. In March 2015, she was updated to the VOCALOID4 engine and was given two additional voicebanks.[1][2] In June 2017, her VOICEROID voicebank was upgraded to the VOICEROID2 engine. In late September 2020, she was released for the Voidol engine.[3] In January 2021, she received a CeVIO AI Song Voice voicebank, and in October 2021, she was released for the A.I.VOICE engine; in October 2022, she received her first append for A.I.VOICE. In May 2023, she was announced to receive a VoiSona voicebank. She was announced to be receiving DNN-compatible voicebanks for A.I.VOICE2 to be released in December 2023.[4]
Her voice is provided by the Japanese voice actress Ishiguro Chihiro (石黒千尋).
Concept[]
The concept for Yukari is "People who are related to the VOCALOID connect the sounds/moon to one another," (VOCALOIDに縁のある人達が音(月)を結ぶ). The English title is "She unites you all with her voice". She is loosely inspired by the legend of the Moon rabbit.
Her age, weight, and height were supplied in "ボカロPlus vol.4".[5] According to VOCALOMAKETS member, kagomeP, she is a cup size A or B.[6] The team kept Yukari the focus for the first 7 years, only touching upon their next vocal on Yukari's 5th anniversary. They focused on growing the character and vocal in a variety of different ways. As such, Yukari had a lot of focus from the team for a number of years and this help diversify her voice greatly. She was developed as an adult or mature sounding vocal.[7]
She, along with Kizuna Akari, have an astronomical theme along with the idea of connecting people.
Etymology[]
Her family name, "Yuzuki" (結月), is derived from the words connect and moon. Her given name, "Yukari", is from connection or relation. It can also mean "violet" in relation to her color scheme.
Appearance[]
Yukari has purple eyes and lavender hair tied into two low pigtails - while the pigtails are long in length and reach her chest, the back of her hair is cut short. She has a pink hair accessory that glows, with the same accessory also being on either side of her hips.
For her VOICEROID and VOCALOID3 and V4 Jun artwork she wears a sleeveless lavender tube dress that reaches her thighs. Over that, she wears a dark jacket with pink accents - the jacket is rabbit themed, as seen by the hoodie branching off into two long rabbit ears. She also wears lavender thigh high socks, the same color as her dress, and black flat shoes.
Originally, Yukari’s design was based on the legend of the moon rabbit, her Rei appears to have an astronomical theme. She wears a long black dress that reaches her knees. The color of the dress changes toward the hem from a deep black to a midnight purple. A gold design that resembles a leaf adorns the hem. Near the top of her waist is a long black/purple bow. Under the skirt is her iconic light purple tights with dark purple stripes. She wears a pair of black pumps with gold heels and soles. She wears a white shawl with a gold pattern and gold “buttons” and rabbit inspired ears hanging off the back. On her hands are short see-through black gloves. On her right wrist, she wears a golden bracelet. Yukari’s hair is cut short in the back with a longer piece that is slightly curled styled to the left side of her bangs. On the other side of her head is a braid. She wears black and gold headphones with golden “button” that decorates the ear part of her headphones. The same gold “buttons” are located on her shawl, skirt and hem. Her hair color is a light lavender, the same as her eyes. Yuzuki Yukari's illustrator Ayakura Juu noted that Yuzuki Yukari Rei was designed with a more mature impression and changed the shape of Yukari's hairstyle with a "special overnight stage costume" theme in mind.[8]
For her standard A.I.VOICE design, Ayakura Juu was asked to give her a more everyday appearance.[9] Her hair is short like her Rei appearance but still has her signature front low twintails (albeit much shorter than her VOICEROID and VOCALOID designs).

History[]
CeVIO AI[]
On July 22, 2020, VOCALOMAKETS announced that a singing voicebank for Yukari would be developed alongside updates for IA TALK, ONE TALK, and a Song Voice for flower. VOCALOMAKETS noted that their goal is to "further expand the range of singing voice synthesis".[10][11]
On November 1, Techno-Speech, Inc. announced on Twitter that they would be handling the full development and distribution of Yuzuki Yukari's voicebank for CeVIO AI.[12]
On November 20, a demo featuring Yuzuki Yukari Rei's CeVIO AI voicebank was uploaded to the official VOCALOMAKETS SoundCloud alongside the silhouette for her new design. [13]
On December 19, Yuzuki Yukari Rei's full design was revealed during a VOCALOMAKETS livestream. [14] The full image was later released on December 21 in a VOCALOMAKETS press release alongside information regarding price & release date. It was announced she would be releasing as both a physical packaged version and a download version on January 19, 2021 and the Song Voice would be available separately after February. Users who pre-order were also offered an acrylic stand based on Yuzuki Yukari Rei.[15] The Yuzuki Yukari Rei demo previously uploaded to SoundCloud was also uploaded to VOCALOMAKETS' official YouTube Channel.[16]
She was officially released on January 29.
A.I.VOICE[]
On February 16, she and Kizuna Akari were confirmed to be receiving A.I.VOICE voicebanks.[17] On July 9, a silhouette of her A.I.VOICE design was shown and it was mentioned that she would have voice styles capable of expressing joy, sadness, and anger. She was slated for a Fall 2021 release and it was teased that her artwork would be revealed on the 5th A.I.VOICE Live Broadcast airing a week later on the 16th.[18]
On August 16, a second A.I.VOICE voicebank was teased. Her silhouette was revealed and was listed as "coming soon". This voicebank was also mentioned to not be compatible with voice styles unlike her main voicebank.[19] Details of the voicebank were revealed on August 26 on the 6th AIVOICE Live Broadcast. She was revealed as Yuzuki Yukari Shizuku, a 13-year-old version of Yukari. Yukari and Yukari Shizuku would be bundled together for the final release.[20]
There were two releases for her A.I.VOICE: a regular edition for ¥12,210 and a limited 10th anniversary package for ¥27,500. Both went up for pre-order on October 5 and was released on the 22.[21]
Marketing[]
Yuzuki Yukari was aimed at producers rather than the general VOCALOID fandom. She was also made to be capable of being bought with many different other software bundles, including both of her VOICEROID and VOCALOID versions, as well as the software suite Music Maker MX.[22]
In 2012, merchandise for both Yukari and another AH-Software product, the VOCALOID SF-A2 miki, were put up for sale. The merchandise included straps, mugs, and T-shirts manufactured by the company COSPA.[23]
Mobile apps[]
Yukari appeared in the Social RPG "Hack Doll - Nightmare Sequencer" (ハックドール-Nightmare Sequencer-) by Mobage. The game is for Android phones with Yukari as an unlockable by meeting certain conditions within the game.[24]
In 2015, a promotion app was made for the new Bell phone featuring Yukari[25]. This app lets users order the food from a restaurant and buzzes when the order is done so they can come pick it up.
Voicebanks[]
- Yuzuki Yukari - Talk
- The VOICEROID release of Yukari was made alongside the normal VOCALOID release and was made to match the tone of "Jun". Producers can use both singing and speech vocals in the same production and the listener can tell they are the same vocalist. The talk version was later updated to include tones that more closely matched "Onn" and "Lin".
- Yuzuki Yukari (VOICEROID+), December 22, 2011
- Yuzuki Yukari (VOICEROID2), June 9, 2017
- Yuzuki Yukari (A.I.VOICE), October 22, 2021
- Yuzuki Yukari - Jun
- Yukari's vocal was released in co-development to her VOICEROID voicebank and was meant to portray a young female vocal with much softness and expression. Yukari's vocal was unique at the time of its release and had several supportive additions including the VOICEROID release. It was a natural vocal that leaned towards genres of music such as Jazz which require a vocal capable of slower tempos.

- The vocal was planned to be released for Unity with VOCALOID, which runs on the lite version of VOCALOID2, but never was released. How far in production the voicebank was is unknown.
- Yuzuki Yukari - Onn
- The Onn vocal was an example of voice acting and was intended to sound even more expressive then the "Jun" vocal itself. It is designed for slower and more expressive genres of music such as smooth jazz.
- Yuzuki Yukari V4 (VOCALOID4), March 18, 2015
- Yuzuki Yukari Onn (Mobile VOCALOID Editor)

Reputation[]
Reaction[]
Yukari has been one of the more successful VOCALOIDs first introduced in the V3 era. In December 2014, "It Seems Like There's A Secret Command To Becoming Happy" became her first original song to achieve 1 million views on niconico. This number was reached nearly 3 years after her release, which meant that Yukari was slower to gain popularity compared to IA, who is considered the most successful new VOCALOID3 character and vocal.
Impact[]
Her success lead to two new additional vocals for Yuzuki Yukari V4 as well as an update for her V3 vocal, as well as the creation of another character.
Misc[]
In 2015, a survey was made based on the popularity of VOCALOIDs on the website niconico. In 2014, Yukari was the 8th most popular VOCALOID.[26]
Due to her vocals being featured in a number of additional software packages, Yukari's voicebanks became the most extensive compared to other VOCALOIDs who possess only one voicebank and gave her the most potential overall. Some of these packages can be bought with Yukari upon purchase, although users who manage to master her vocal may consider these packages as part of their future planning.
Trivia[]
- While Yukari is the first VOICEROID to be sold as a VOCALOID, she is not the first VOCALOID with the ability to speak. She is only the second, the first being Ryuto (Gachapoid). However, Ryuto uses V-talk and VOCALOID-flex instead of the VOICEROID software.
- At the time Yukari was first released for VOCALOID and VOICEROID, she was rather very expensive if you wanted her to sing and talk.

- First VOCALOID to also be released as a VOICEROID.
