Yokune Ruko (欲音ルコ) is a Japanese vocal synthesizer character created by Long Sleeper and was originally released for the UTAU voice synthesizer software in November 2008 and has received additional voicebanks for other vocal synthesizer softwares such as speaking voice models for TALQu, CoeFont CLOUD and COEIROINK, as well as numerous AI singing voice models for Diff-SVC, ENUNU, and DiffSinger.
She[2] has two voice providers. Her feminine voice is provided by Hikachi Yuu (日勝ゆう) while her masculine voice is provided by Raichi Yuu (雷地ゆう). Both names are lampoons of Pikachu and Raichu respectively from Pokémon.
Ruko became the third fake "VOCAROID" developed by "Cripton" on the 2ch boards. The reference being that Megurine Luka is Crypton Future Media's third vocal. She is classified as a dere-dere, or a romantic person who likes to be petted like a cat. But getting on their bad side earns one a barrage of insults.
Ruko is intersex, described as 90% male, 10% female.[3] Their unusual height is a possible nod to a Japanese proverb that says 寝る子は育つ (neru ko wa sodatsu), which means that "A child who sleeps a lot grows up greatly." Alternatively fans speculate that their height is due to having mixed American heritage, as average Japanese girls are not known for this kind of height.
Ruko is said to have a gambling habit.
Etymology
Her surname Yokune (欲音) means "greedy sound", from the fact that she has two voicebanks (female and male). However, her name is also a pun on the phrase Yoku neru ko. Alternatively, her whole name is sometimes written as よく寝る子 (yoku neru ko), which translates as "The girl who sleeps a lot." The name Ruko (ルコ) is both a masculine and feminine Japanese name.
Appearance
She has black pigtails with blue streaks and heterochromatic eyes; one blue and the other red. She wears a white tight sleeveless dress shirt covered by a dark blue sleeveless dress coat, complete with detached sleeves and blue necktie; she wears black low-cut pants which exposes a pair of black string underwear. She wears only one glove, on her right hand. She also wears a red headset with blue lights. She used to bear the same body model 03 as her true counterpart, Megurine Luka at first. Just like with Teto vip@2ch (under the parody name CRIPTON) designed her as the probable CV03, the Character Vocal Series 03 from Crypton. Then her model was converted to 6 (roku) 5 (go), which has a similar pronunciation with her name Ruko.
↑Ruko uses any pronouns, this article refers to she/her pronouns for consistency and clarity.
↑The wiki uses a more appropriate term to refer to this character's sex but the creator originally uses the term "Futanari". The original profile originally lists this under "Gender" however it is more appropriate to treat this as Ruko's "Sex" rather than "Gender".
