Tsuina, the Ogre Hunter Project (鬼っ子ハンターついなちゃんプロジェクト) is a project revolving around the character, Tsuina-chan, and was originally developed in 2011 and made in response to the Hinomoto Oniko Project (日本鬼子ぷろじぇくと) by former author Saki Ohenri (大辺璃紗季) featuring Mai Kadowaki.

Originally starting as a voice drama series featuring Tsuina-chan, the project would later set up as a company, Kisaragian LLC. (合同会社如月庵) on September 17, 2019 following the rebrand of the character, dropping all connections to Oniko. It would branch off into various manga and illustration projects as well as various sound sources and led to the development of VOICEROID and Synthesizer V libraries.[1][2]

History[]

Tsuina, the Ogre Hunter Project developed their first VOICEROID2 speech synthesis library for Tsuina-chan and released in collaboration with AH-Software Co. Ltd. on November 1, 2019.

On September 14, 2020, the Tsuina-chan Project launched a contest for fans to design what would be an outfit for her if she were to become a singing synthesizer.[3] The contest was set to last until November 14. Less than a month later, on October 5, Tsuina-chan's official twitter account confirmed that she would be starting a crowdfunding campaign for a singing synthesizer later in winter.[4] On October 30, Synthesizer V AI was announced and it was later revealed that Tsuina-chan would begin a crowdfunding campaign for Synthesizer V Studio Standard and Synthesizer V AI banks later that year.[5] The campaign began on December 4 and reached its initial goal of 5,000,000 yen in one day.[6][7]

Chuuki[]

Chuuki 2017 illust

Chuuki (中鬼) was conceptualized as a joke character in 2017 that plays off of Zenki and Goki's shikigami status. While the two are Tsuina's front and back demons, Chuuki is the alleged "Middle Demon". They have no official relation to either Zenki or Goki though. Their canonicity is debated in the official setting but they do make an appearance in he first generation of the Tsuina-Chan Voice Dramas and a cameo appearance as a plush strap hanging from Saki's bag in her Seiren Voice design.

Chuuki concept

They speak in standard Japanese dialect but with a voice similar to Mickey Mouse. Their green body is longer than Zenki or Goki's and in fact grows longer when they lie or lust. Because of this, they are often compared to a cucumber. Chuuki is often depicted with a mischievous personality, not necessarily antagonistic but moreso annoying. Cats are hostile to them and they don't like crickets and bell crickets.

She is an Oni (鬼) and her design is themed around as such. Her family name Hasuki (蓮鬼) is the inverse of the Oni Basu (鬼蓮) also known as the Prickly Water Lily, which means "mysterious" in Japanese flower language. The Lotus (蓮) represents is a symbol of purity and holiness, and is one of the kigo for July. Her given name Nemu (ねむ) comes from the kanji Sound (音, ne) and Dream (夢, mu); which represents the desire for her to be loved as a vocal synth character.[16][17]

Musui Joko[]

Musui Joko illust

Musui Joko (夢酔じょうこ) is a character made by CoeStation Co., Ltd. (コエステ株式会社), their second original character after Hasuki Nemu. She was created and was successfully crowdfunded for their TTS engine, CoeAvatar but did not end up seeing a public release. Her intellectual property was given to Tsuina, the Ogre Hunter Project after AI, Inc. acquired CoeStation.

Her name, profile and final clothing aspects was crowdsourced from user-submissions on a Twitter Space based on a rough draft of her design.[18] Much like Nemu before her, she is also an Oni and she works as her maid. Her family name Musui (夢酔) is a combination of the words Dream (夢) and to get Drunk (酔う), which means the desire to let loose and get drunk. Her given name Joko (じょうこ) comes from the term Jogo (上戸), which alone is slang for someone who loves to drink as opposed to Geko (下戸) which is slang for someone who doesn't like to drink. However when tacked in front of another term, it describes the what type of drunk that person is and what their drunk habit is.[19] Altogether, Musui Joko's name is a pun that means "The type of drunk who's habit is dreaming of getting drunk."
