Tohoku Kiritan (東北きりたん) is a Japanese vocal synthesizer character created by SSS LLC. in collaboration with AH-Software Co. Ltd.. She is capable of speaking and singing. She was released as an UTAU in June 2015, as a VOICEROID+ EX in October 2016, as a NEUTRINO singing model in February 2020, as a CeVIO AI Song Voice in February 2021, as a VOICEPEAK text-to-speech library in June 2023, and as a VoiSona Song Voice (ported from her CeVIO AI Song Voice) in June 2024.
She has also been released on voice conversion software, such as Voidol in November 2019 and Seiren Voice in July 2023. Her vocals have also been used in various synthesizers, primarily for research and development, such as NNSVS and ACE Virtual Singer, with singing models trained using her freely available singing data set released in November 2019.[1]
Tohoku Kiritan is a elementary schooler in fifth-grade.
In 2014, she and her elder sister Itako had a successful campaign to have UTAU voicebanks developed. Later, in mid-April 2016, Kiritan began a campaign to become a VOICEROID.
Etymology[]
Her name is inspired by kiritanpo, a pounded rice that is shaped into cylinders like the ones on her back.
Appearance[]
Tohoku Kiritan is a young girl with brown pigtails and thick bangs cut just above her red eyes. A single hair (or ahoge) sticks up on top of her hair. Her headphones have black knife-shaped ornaments in the shape of ears protruding out of the sides, and kiritanpo-shaped ear cups. She wears a white kimono with a golden rice pattern at the hem, under which she wears a purple pleated skirt. A crimson obi is tied around her waist, and decorated with a green obiage and pink obijime. Attached to her obi are two large kiritanpo. Her shoes are black and red zori over short white tabi.
Personality[]
Kiritan is rather quiet. She is a hikikomori and doesn't get out much like her sisters. She adores her sister Zunko and one of her dreams is for her to become a idol. Her other dream is to be reunited with Tan-chan.[2]

History[]
In mid-April 2016, Kiritan began a crowdfund campaign to receive a VOICEROID+ EX speech voicebank, in a manner similar to Kyomachi Seika's.[3] The campaign ran until May 18th, with a goal of ¥4,500,000 needed. On April 29th, she surpassed this amount.[4]
She later received a release to NEUTRINO.
Kiritan was announced for CeVIO AI on October 22, 2020 during a press release from AH-Software Co. Ltd.. She was confirmed to have a Song Voice. She was later placed for pre-order reservation on AH-Software's AH-Soft Net on January 21, 2021 and released on February 12 as both an individual Song Voice and a Starter Pack.[5][6] A download version was also released through cleverbridge.[7]
On January 16, 2023, a crowdfund campaign for her VOICEPEAK talking library was announced.[8] The rewards announced for the crowdfund are:[9][10]
