Shiki Taigen (式(しき)大元(たいげん)), also known as Shiki-Ji (式(しき)じい) is a Japanese vocal synthesizer character created by yuuma, a voice actor and Virtual YouTuber who is also his voice provider, and was first released for UTAU in December 2014. He also started activities as a Virtual YouTuber in January 2018. He received an A.I.VOICE text-to-speech library, his first commercial vocal synthesizer, developed through the A.I.VOICE Junior program, in March 2022,[3] in collaboration with MUGEN Co., Ltd. and AI, Inc.;[4] he received an update to the A.I.VOICE2 software in December 2024.[5]

With the release of Rowen's VOCALOID6 voicebank, yuuma transferred the rights to Rowen and Taigen to MUGEN, having fulfilled the lifelong dream he had of Rowen becoming a VOCALOID vocal ever since he created him when he was a middle school student. MUGEN will continue to manage projects related to the pair.[6]

A derivative of Shiki Taigen, known as Chibi Shiki-Ji (ちび式じい), created by sirokitten (とらキトン), received a voice model for the VOICEVOX text-to-speech software in December 2022.[7]

Concept[]

Shiki Taigen is described as a a divine dragon and spirit in the form of a dragon man, inspired by dragon lore and fairy tales associated with Yamagata Prefecture. He is 1/4 dragon man and tiger-beast man and is the great-grandfather of Shiki Rowen. He lives among humans in the human world and is often the subject of being flirted with by humans due to the floral scent of his body hair (which carries the scent of potato flowers). He can transform into human form and has more divine power than that of Rowen and the length of his transformation can be held for about 12 hours. He can use techniques related to the four seasons and the four elements. He is a potato farmer by profession, and also likes camping, touring, driving, fishing, and outdoor activities. His hobbies include: researching potato dishes, growing potatoes, feeling the four seasons, researching idols, singing, and dancing.

He is an idol, singer, and dancer as a part-time UTAU sound source. He is the one who helped his great-grandson Rowen debut as an idol, without his permission, so that he could show off his great-grandson's cuteness to the world. He loves potatoes and wears potato flowers in his hair. He had a loving wife who was a werewolf, however, she passed away due to a difference in life expectancy. As a result, he raised Rowen by himself. He used to have a low-pitched voice, however, when all his family members except Rowen passed away, his throat collapsed from screaming and he became hoarse. He is a biker and rides a Yamaha Tricity 300.[8]

Etymology[]

His name comes from “the dragon that governs the four seasons and nature. Four Seasons -> Shiki, Four Elements -> Daigen.”

History[]

On March 12, 2022, Shiki Rowen and Shiki Taigen's A.I.VOICE libraries were released for pre-reservation as physical and digital download options through the A.I.VOICE Official Site, DLsite and Vector PC Shop respectively [9][10] The release date was announced to be March 25, 2022.[11]

Marketing[]

Shiki Taigen, as well as Chibi Shiki-Ji, have received official 3D models for MikuMikuDance of his UTAU, Virtual YouTuber and A.IVOICE designs, all created by sirokitten (とらキトン)[12][13][14][15]
