Rook (ルーク) is a vocal synth character created for the UTAU program.
His voice is provided by Yuji.
Concept[]
Rook's voice was initially a masculine voice created for Yokune Ruko's release in case her initial masculine voice provider did not make the deadline for her release.[3] While his voice was not used in the end, he was made to be derived from Ruko as his own character, a human who can turn into a dog.
Etymology[]
His name Rook is derived from Yokune Ruko's given name, Ruko (ルコ). Ruko's name is a pun on the phrase "Yoku neru ko", and in fact her whole name is sometimes written as よく寝る子 (yoku neru ko), which translates as "The girl who sleeps a lot". This influences some of Rook's profile.
Appearance[]
He has short black hair with red streaks and red eyes. He purposely styles his hair to have an ahoge to have a taller silhouette. He has two red conch shell piercings on his left ear that link to a black collar he wears around his neck. The collar he wears around his neck has a silver collar plate that has the numbers "69" engraved on it. He wears a long red coat that reaches his legs and is lined with white fur around the neck area. The coat is adorned with dog collars with a darker shade of red around the neck, waist area and wrists. The coat has a zipper that doesn't span the entire length of the coat but zips from the waist up to the just before the collar.[2]
Underneath he wears a black cropped tight V-neck that shows off his abdominal muscles; the shirt can either be sleeveless or have sleeves that reaches half-way down his biceps. He also has a black armband with red trimmings and his logo, a diamond checkerboard with a black rook chess piece in the middle, around his left arm. He wears black pants that have dog collars at the end of each pant hole similar to his coat accompanied with a red belt. Said red belt has a silver metal buckle with a cross cut out. For easier wearing when in dog form, the belt around the pants and around the waist of the coat are velcro.[2]
He also wears black heeled boots with a red sole. Because of his insecurity over being shorter than Ruko, the height of his boots are adjustable to make him taller depending on who he sings next to.[2]
In dog form Rook has tan brown fur and a black tail. He maintains the hair from his human form and most of his clothes save for his pants and boots.
Because he's derived from Yokune Ruko, design aspects like his hair streak and clothes are made to complement hers. Just like his name, his model is similarly derived from Ruko except rather than Ruko's 65, Rook's model is 6 (roku) 9 (ku), which has a similar pronunciation with his name.
Personality[]
Rook is a chronic tardy person because of this he often says "Sorry, I've got ya waiting!".[2] He also has the ability to transform into a dog.

History[]
2008[]
During Yokune Ruko's development, it was decided that she was to receive two voicebanks, one with a female voice provider and another with a male voice provider, the two parts were given to Hikachi Yuu and Raichi Yuu. Raichi Yuu however wasn't online for some time, so a user called Yuji completed a full CV voicebank recording of his own voice, in case Raichi Yuu couldn't complete the recording before the deadline. One month before Ruko's release, Raichi Yuu became active again and resumed recording, managing to finish his voicebank just in time for Yokune Ruko's release on November 17. This left Yuji's CV bank floating around without a character.[3]
The concept of a voicebank of Yuji's voice remained after the Yokune Ruko project, and a separate thread was created for Rook.
2009[]
Various vip@2ch denizens liked how Yuji's voicebank sounded and the effort he put in the voicebank, so a separate thread was opened to reveal Rook as an UTAU character on Ruko's first anniversary.
