POPY (ポピー) is a Japanese Song Voice developed and distributed by Bushiroad Inc., and released for CeVIO AI in December 2022. She is based on the multimedia project BanG Dream! idol, Toyama Kasumi,[1] and is part of the BanG Dream! AI Singing Synthesizer project titled Yumenokessho (夢ノ結唱).[2]
Her voice is provided by Aimi (愛美), a singer and voice actress who also provided her vocals for Toyama Kasumi.
Concept[]
POPY is a representation of Toyama Kasumi, the main protagonist of the BanG Dream! franchise, for CeVIO AI. Kasumi is a second-year student at Hanasakigawa Girls' High School and is the leader, vocalist, rhythm guitarist, and songwriter for Poppin'Party.
Kasumi's official profile states that she is a highly active and always positive girl who has been searching for something sparkling that could make her heart flutter ever since she entered high school. She encountered a girl with a bright red star-shaped guitar along the way, and ever since, has had a dream to form an all-girl band. She has a younger sister in her family of 4, but it's not exactly clear who acts like the elder.[3]
Bandori Project producer, Nemoto Yuki (根本雄貴), explained during the "BanG Dream! Summer Grand Presentation 2022" (バンドリ!夏の大発表会 2022) live broadcast that while the character is based on Toyama Kasumi, the Song Voice library is meant to capture the sounds of Poppin'Party and was named POPY as a result, short for the band name.[4]
Etymology[]
POPY's name comes from Toyama Kasumi's band name Poppin'Party.
Appearance[]
POPY’s appearance is based off of Toyama Kasumi. As such, they share many similarities, such as short, shoulder-length, slightly wavy dark brown hair styled into two pointed buns, and pale purple eyes. In her hair is a barrette with pink, blue, yellow, and purple stars, a larger orange star barrette, and pink diamond-shaped spots of color. On her right cheek is a magenta marking that trails down to the base of her neck. POPY wears a short, white, star-decorated, pleated skirt, overlaid with a white and magenta cropped poncho-like jacket and puffy, white sleeves underneath translucent sleeves bound by orange and white striped cuffs. A white and magenta-striped sailor collar rests over her shoulders knotted at the base with a long, magenta tie with white, futuristic detailing. Underneath the jacket, is a white sleeveless crop top as seen in concept images with a large magenta bow with white futuristic detailing tied around her neck. Two star-shaped bracelets, one black with blue, purple, orange, yellow, and pink lights encircling her right wrist, and one magenta bracelet encircling her left. She wears white and magenta futuristic knee-length socks and loafers with white stars floating around her ankles. She has a pink marking on the upper thigh of her left leg.
POPY's illustration was designed and illustrated by yonemuro (米室), a Japanese illustrator.

History[]
2022[]
On June 23, 2022, Toyama Kasumi's Song Voice was officially revealed under the new name "POPY" alongside Minato Yukina's CeVIO AI Song Voice, ROSE.[5] A promotional teaser video was released and an official story-writing contest was launched through monogatary.com with the intent of creating stories of newborn girls playing an active role under the theme of "Yumenokessho" (夢ノ結唱), which is also the title of the CeVIO AI project. The story selected for the grand prize would be made into a song by VOCALOID producer Kemu. A second contest, in collaboration with"Sakuga King GRAND-PRIX" (作画王グランプリ), was also announced to be held in autumn 2022 with the theme of the created song. A music video featuring all participants would be produced following the contest.[6][7] The results of the Yumenokessho monogatary.com story-writing contest concluded on September 29, with the Grand Prize winner announced to be Trapezoid (著・台形) with their original story titled "Blooming Song".[8] The story described a young woman who passed through her teenage days and was entering adulthood. While not dissatisfied with her ordinary days, a fire burned deep within her heart that hasn't gone out yet with a love for music. She meets POPY and ROSE, AIs who want to be someone's dream.[9]
On October 3, it was announced that works featuring POPY were accepted on Piapro, a well-known Japanese center of the VOCALOID, and extensively, voice synthesizer community.[10]
The finalists for the Sakuga King GRAND-PRIX Grand Prix Collaboration Contest would be announced on the official Yumenokessho TOKYOMX broadcast. The official music video featuring all participants was planned to be released on December 23.[11] Following was the announcement of a new Yumenokessho Composition Contest where winning entries may have the opportunity of being performed live by Toyama Kasumi and Minato Yukina.[12]
The Yumenokessho Composition Contest entry deadline closed on November 30 with 341 entries.[13][14] The eight finalists were announced on December 15 including: Fty, obakeP (おばけP), YumemitaP (夢魅たぴ), muscatone (ますかっと), Itoi (イトイ), Sumia, Hmt2, and omi.[15][16] Details regarding the participant music video and additional contest details were released on the official BanG Dream website.[17][18] Additional contests were announced to be in consideration for the future.[19] Of the eight finalists, four of the producers would be composing music for POPY and four for ROSE repectively.[20]
