Marie Ork is an English vocal synthesis character developed by software developer DSmolken of Karoryfer Samples. She has three English voicebanks that were sourced by a female vocalist of the death metal band Ennorath and was released for the Alter/Ego vocal synthesis software in December 2016.

Concept[]

Marie Ork was created as the first virtual female death metal vocalist capable of growling and other unclean vocal styles. To suit this, she was envisioned as a non-human character who is still approachable and likable. [1] Initially, she was introduced as "cyborg goblin witch"[2], but with time the references to her being a cyborg were phased out in favor of her being an extraterrestial[3] who came to Earth to pursuit a career as a singer and model[4], and her original race reminiscent of both orcs and goblins.[5]

Etymology[]

The name "Marie Ork" is a pun on Merry Oaks Park in Texas, a neighborhood familiar to DSmolken, which was first utilized as 272 Merry Orks, a free sound library with goblin-like vocalizations. It has been later confirmed that her first name means "merry"[6], and her last name being "common among her people" coincides with her race designation.[7]

Appearance[]

Marie is tall, slender and strong. Her skin is rich olive hue, and she sports fiery auburn hair that flows in voluminous waves, her eyes are bright yellow irises set against black sclera. She has slightly extended lower canines that peek over her lips, which are interchangebly refered to as "fangs" or "tusks".

Her default outfit is a goth-inspired dress with a short jacket and a bat-shaped hair clip[8], however alternative outfits exists, including a witch's hat or platform shoes, and users are strongly encouraged to design their own.

Personality[]

As a combatant Ork, sheā€™s bold, resilient, and naturally confident, with skills in both magic and traditional Ork weaponry. When interacting with humans, she is curious and enthusiastic about human culture, with an open-minded attitude toward trying new experiences. Her upbeat attitude is not opposed to, but rather enabled by her ability to release any negative emotions through combat practice.[9]
