Kasukabe Tsumugi (春日部つむぎ) is a Japanese vocal synthesizer character developed by the KasukabeTsumugi Project. She is capable of speaking and was released for the VOICEVOX text-to-speech software in November 2021.[1] She was released via a limited lottery application in September 2023 for the VOCALOID β-STUDIO VX-β engine and later received an AI voicebank for VOCALOID6[2] in March 2025.[3]
Her voice and illustrations are provided by the Japanese Virtual YouTuber Kasukabe Tsukushi (春日部つくし) from Virtual Saitama (バーチャル埼玉; Bāchuaru Saitama). As a Virtual YouTuber, Tsukushi made her debut in February 2018 and was formerly part of company Activ8's in-house agency upd8 (which also managed Kizuna Ai before she got her own standalone company) before its cease of operations in December 2020.[4]
Concept[]
Kasukabe Tsumugi was created as the cousin of the YouTuber Kasukabe Tsukushi. She was born in the Saitama Prefecture like her cousin.
Appearance[]
Kasukabe Tsumugi has a rather scruffy looking appearance. She has messy platinum blond hair tied in a single pigtail on her left. She loosely wears a light brown school jacket covered in pins and band aids which is somewhat draped under her left shoulder. The jacket also has a black with pink borders armband on her right side. She has a yellow scrunchie on her right wrist over her jacket. Her shirt is a dark grey dress shirt which is not tucked into her skirt and unbuttoned slightly at the top. She also has a slim and very loose golden tie with another band aid at the bottom. She has a dark pink plaid short skirt with a pinkish off-white border towards the bottom. She wears black dress shoes and white legwarmers that go up to her knees. Her nails are painted cyan and she wears a silver necklace. She also has light blue eyes.
For her VOCALOID β-STUDIO design, her jacket is taken off and tied around her waist, while the scrunchie is nowhere to be seen.

History[]
2021: VOICEVOX[]
On October 31, 2021, the Kasukabe Tsukushi Twitter account announced the development of the VOICEVOX Kasukabe Tsumugi. It was stated that Tsumugi was the cousin of the Virtual YouTuber Kasukabe Tsukushi.[5] The newly created Kasukabe Tsumugi official Twitter account also released their first tweet defining what VOICEVOX is.[6] The very next day on November 1, Tsumugi was debuted and officially announced for VOICEVOX. It was stated that she would be releasing sometime that month. Her official website was also published.[7] On November 14, Hiho posted progress on the VOICEVOX "dormitory". He featured Tsumigi as well as teased the upcoming announcements of Namine Ritsu and Amehare Hau.[8] On the 22nd it was finally announced that she would be releasing on November 26.[1]
2023: VOCALOID β-STUDIO[]
On September 14, 2023, four partial illustrations were teased on the official VOCALOID β-STUDIO Twitter account with the announcement by YAMAHA Corporation of four new singers.[9] While unconfirmed by name at the time, the illustrations closely matched previously created characters, primarily those who have appeared as Virtual YouTubers including: Ci the Jiangshi (a former member of the Japanese Virtual YouTuber duo unit BOOGEY VOXX), Kanade Kanon, And Uge, and Kasukabe Tsumugi.[10][11] The last vocalist to be revealed was Kasukabe Tsumugi β, announced officially on September 20, 2023. She made her official debut on September 22 along with her first demonstration, the same day an update for VX-β was announced.[12][13]
Kasukabe Tsumugi β was announced to be released for beta testing applicants beginning on September 26, 2023 to coincide with the VX-β Ver1.1 update. Additional demonstrations were added to her official product page on the official VOCALOID β-STUDIO website the same day.[14][15]
Usable Period[]
VX-β and included voicebanks, such as Kasukabe Tsumugi β, had a limited usable period. After March 31, 2024, the activity end date of this project, it will not start as a plug-in and cannot be used. It was encouraged that users save important work that was being worked on by exporting them onto their respective DAW software until then.
2024: VOCALOID6[]
On July 18, 2024, the same day GekiyakuV and KazehikiV were released for the VOCALOID6 engine, YAMAHA Corporation announced that Ci-chan, And Uge, Kanade Kanon, and Kasukabe Tsumugi would be receiving voicebanks for the VOCALOID6 engine as well.[16] The release date was initially set to around the winter of 2024-2025.[2] The information was also confirmed by her voice provider, Kasukabe Tsukushi.[17]
On November 14, YAMAHA's VOCALOID Twitter account tweeted a sample of Tsumugi using her VOCALOID6 voicebank to sing "Happy Birthday" to herself.[18]
2025[]
On February 7, 2025, Kasukabe Tsumugi's official Twitter account unveiled a silhouette of her VOCALOID6 design, along with a note stating that her voicebank was almost ready for release.[19]
On February 14, her new design and VOCALOID SHOP download icon were revealed, and her release date was set for March 3. A limited amount of pre-orders were opened on her official BOOTH shop for a limited-edition commemorative physical package bundling her voicebank's digital-download link (as well as that for VOCALOID6 Editor Lite) together with an acrylic standing figure and a postcard containing her serial activation code.[20][21] This initial batch of physical pre-orders sold out quickly, but a notice was put that the package would be restocked at a later date.
On March 3, her physical package was restocked at her BOOTH Shop, and regular orders for it opened at 07:00 JST[22] for a limited period (to end on March 2, 2026 at 23:59 JST),[23] with shipments (for both pre-orders and regular orders) starting to be fulfilled since then. A little more than four and a half hours later at 11:36 JST, Yamaha quoted Tsumugi's tweet indicating that the physical package was now available, then added that orders for the digital download version at the VOCALOID SHOP would take some time to open.[24] About four hours later, Tsumugi released on both Japanese and English portals of the VOCALOID SHOP.[3]
