Motto of KAMITSUBAKI STUDIO
KAMITSUBAKI STUDIO (神椿スタジオ) is a Japanese creative label operated by THINKR inc. that is mainly focused on YouTube-based content and is responsible for the creation of the Musical Isotope Project line. It is dedicated to bring about a new and different "V-world" (virtual world) through music creation and story writing that can change the world little by little.
They began releasing voice synthesizers through CeVIO AI, starting with their first Song Voice library, KAFU, in July 2021. KAFU was later followed by four more vocals: SEKAI, RIME, COKO, and HARU. KAMITSUBAKI STUDIO then began to produce libraries for Synthesizer V AI[1] and VOICEPEAK in collaboration with AH-Software Co. Ltd., who was in charge of development.[2][3]
History[]
2020[]
On October 10, 2020, it was announced that KAF would be collaborating with CeVIO AI. Her voicebank was announced to be distributed in winter of that year. A YouTube channel was created for her.[4]
On October 15, a questionnaire was announced. It would be used for determining the type of voice KAFU would have.[5] An accompanying video showcasing three potential vocals was also uploaded including: TYPE // A, TYPE // B and TYPE // C. Users were able to vote their preference for whichever vocal they liked the most. On October 18, the results of the questionnaire were tallied with TYPE // A receiving a rating of 65% of the total votes, TYPE // B receiving a 25.3% of the total votes and TYPE // C receiving a 9.7% of the total votes. It was announced that the voice provider, KAF, would be making the final decision of which vocal would be moving forward with development with reference to the survey results.[6]
On October 19, KAF followed up with a tweet regarding her own feelings on KAFU. She stated that while she was overall thrilled of the vocal as a fellow VOCALOID fan herself and had no concerns of KAFU "replacing" her, she felt as though some people looked at the two as inseparable entities that are indistinct from the other. For this reason, she made the final decision that TYPE // B would be the vocal to proceed with development.[7][8] After the the conclusion of the questionnaire results, KAFU's Twitter announced on October 27, that the development period would be extended with a delayed release date in hopes of satisfying both KAF and fans. KAFU was slated to be released within the first half of 2021.[9]
2021[]
On January 21, 2021 the official website for KAFU was created and revealed her full illustration, as well as information regarding pricing, purchase options and locations. It was revealed that KAFU would be releasing as starter pack with both the Song Voice and CeVIO AI editor as well as an original compilation album. The Song Voice is also available as a separate purchase.[10]
On March 14, KAFU's pre-order period was launched on KAMITSUBAKI STUDIO's BOOTH store.[11] A special retweet campaign was announced to commemorate KAFU's release in which 10 users would be selected to receive her CeVIO AI Starter Pack. [12] On June 24, her terms and guidelines for her character and voicebank usage were posted to her website as well as the official KAMITSUBAKI STUDIO website. [13][14]
She was finally released on July 7. She was also made available as a digital version on Vector Shop.[15]. On September 22, it was announced that the Vector Shop distribution for KAFU would stop on September 24 while the other websites would continue to distribute her voicebank.[16]
On October 24, a new collaboration with CeVIO AI and KAMITSUBAKI STUDIO was announced for a project known as SEKAI. A tentative release date of Spring 2022 was set with details to be announced at a later date.[17] A sketch of the initial concept for SEKAI was unveiled during the Isekaijoucho(ヰ世界情緒) 1st ONE-MAN LIVE "Anima" virtual concert.[18][19]

Kamitsubaki City Under Construction[]
KAMITSUBAKI CITY UNDER CONSTRUCTION (神椿市建設中。) is a multi-media project by KAMITSUBAKI STUDIO. It was first established in 2019 when KAMITSUBAKI first started debuting the Virtual Witch Phenomenon (VWP). The project formally starts in 2021, during the COVID-19 pandemic, citing the real-world relationships between people that we've taken for granted and social distancing creating distance between people, KAMITSUBAKI STUDIO aims to provide stories that connect people even when they're apart.[68]
The story centers around exploring the mysteries of the virtual KAMITSUBAKI CITY, rebuilding the city and restoring peace and order. The experience takes place in both the virtual world and the real world.
Its first prominent project was EMERGENCE, an ARG that occurred from October 4 to 31, 2021 and introduced to us the Five Witches based on the VWP.[69][70] From EMERGENCE, three new projects were announced: NARRATIVE, a TTRPG featuring the VIPs and the Five Witches,[71] REGENERATE, a visual novel game and CHRONICLE, a novel. These three projects were all collectively called DIVERGENCE, timelines diverging from where EMERGENCE ended.
In 2023, DIVERGENCE would later be expanded and merged to the KAMITSUBAKI VERSE, now not only containing the three previously announced projects but all future projects relating to KAMITSUBAKI UNDER CONSTRUCTION, such as the newly announced rhythm game, ENSEMBLE,[72] virtual reality game, VIRTUAL REALITY,[73] and anime.[74]
NARRATIVE[]

Kamitsubaki City Under Construction: NARRATIVE (神椿市建設中。NARRATIVE) is a table-top role-playing game that released April 9, 2023, featuring the VIP alongside the Five Witches. The story of the game is flexible due to the nature of the medium.[75]
ENSEMBLE[]

KAMITSUBAKI CITY ENSEMBLE (神椿市協奏中。) is a rhythm game available on Steam, iOS and Android set for a Spring 2024 release. The game features the VIPs and the Witches in a story about rebuilding the post-apocalyptic world through songs. The game boasts Musical Isotope original songs from various VocaloP's and VWP's original discography.[76]
