VOICEROID is a speech synthesizer program created by AH-Software Co. Ltd. and released in December 2009. The name is derived from "VOCALOID". However, while VOCALOID is meant for singing, VOICEROID is meant for speaking. The follow up version of VOICEROID is VOICEROID+ which released in October 2010. The final version of the original VOICEROID engine was VOICEROID+ EX which was an upgrade to the VOICEROID+ engine released in October 2014.[1]

User interface[]

The user is able to adjust the tempo, pitch, and intonation to make the program sound more natural. VOICEROID enables the user to type in any word or phrase and Shouta and Ai Tsukuyomi will repeat it back to them. [2] All VOICEROID products will be packaged with the animating software, Crazy Talk SE.[3]

VOICEROID+ has slight improvements over the original but otherwise functions the same. The interface is slightly different and the capabilities have been expanded.

Movie Pro MX2 Narration Pack & VOICEROID Pack[]

On September 8, 2016, a Japanese version of MAGIX's video-editing software Movie Pro MX3 was released by AH-Software Co. Ltd. in various editions, including a Narration Pack (SAHS-41005) edition; instead of being bundled with any specific VOICEROID vocal (like the preceding Movie Pro and Movie Pro MX Narration Packs which included either VOICEROID+ Tsurumaki Maki, Yuzuki Yukari, or Kotonoha Akane & Aoi), it included the option to download any one voicebank of the user's choice from the then-current list of VOICEROID+ and EX vocals (either for free or, in the cases of Yoshida-kun EX and Kotonoha Akane & Aoi, for a small fee) for use with Movie Pro MX3.[4] On May 15, 2017, months after Tohoku Kiritan was released, the Narration Pack was discontinued and replaced by the VOICEROID Pack (SAHS-40005), which not only added Kiritan to the list of vocals available for download and use with MX3, but also was future-proofed to allow for downloading any of the then-upcoming VOICEROID2 voicebanks upon purchase of the VOICEROID Pack (varying fees would be charged to download these newer voices, depending on the character).[5]

    Trivia[]

    • Though originally geared towards speaking, with audio tuning software it is possible for the VOICEROIDs to be allowed to sing. Beyond this, the only other music value the VOICEROIDs have is Rap.
    • All VOICEROID and VOCALOID packages from AH-Software were originally banned from KAREN-T and Piapro, since AH-Software had never granted permission for their use with the sites services. However, while permission was later granted to all VOCALOIDs, the ban on VOICEROIDs has never been lifted from the Web sites.
    • Despite being part of the VOICEROID+ series, Kotonoha Akane & Aoi share the same features as those in the VOICEROID+ EX series.
