Baek Jungwoo (백정우) is a vocal synthesizer character created and voiced by xuu originally as a Korean append for Amano Naoki's UTAU voicebank on June 28, 2018. He received his own DeepVocal voicebank as a character separate from Naoki on October 13, 2021. He will also be receiving AI NNSVS and ENUNU voicebanks.

His voice is provided by xuu, who also voices the vocal synthesizer character Amano Naoki.

Concept

Etymology

His name is taken from the Japanese word "Uchuu" (宇宙, space or universe), the former name used to refer to Amano Naoki. The Korean name "Baek Jeongwoo" (백정우) has no special meaning, but the hanja for the name (白正宇) incorporates one of the characters of the Japanese name, 宇.

Baek Jungwoo is the maknae of the group, with a puppy-like demeanor. He is described as an energy battery who takes good care of the older members of his group.

History

2017

Art was made for Amano Naoki's Korean VCCV append by Hinkey.

2018

A Korean append for Amano Naoki was released on June 28. However, instead of a design based on himself, his Korean append released with a new human design and a new name, Baek Jungwoo, a character conceptualized as an idol trainee who likes ramyeon. Xuu expressed interest in making a VCV Korean bank after his release.

2021

Baek Jungwoo was announced to be revived as a DeepVocal on August 29. His updated design and first demo showcasing his vocals were revealed in video. His DeepVocal illustration was first teased on September 6, 2021 before being revealed proper three days later on the 9th.

His VCCV DeepVocal voicebank named Baek Jungwoo STARt and updated profile were released on October 13. His profile updated his age from 18 to 19 and his career from an idol-trainee to a fully-fledged idol. A demo reel was released on the same day.

2022

Xuu first expressed interest in making a Korean NNSVS database for Jungwoo on August 1st. but development didn't start at least until 2 weeks later on August 14. A working demo built on around 8 minutes worth of data was released on August 25th. Another demo was released on the 29th, this time with around 15 minutes worth of data. It was estimated that after all the data was labelled, his ideal range would be around E2~A2. Later on September 10, a third demo would be released, this time with around 25 minutes worth of data. It was also revealed that the goal was to reach around 1 hour worth of data before publicly releasing as a beta model. Recording additional sounds was also a goal xuu hoped to achieve so that Jungwoo's NNSVS would also be capable of singing English better. His recommended range was also updated to D#2~A4. Additional data was recorded to reinforce his higher ranges.

A new design for Jungwoo's AI database was announced on the same day as the reveal of his first demo. His NNSVS design would be teased on September 7, illustrated by sixlightyears.

Baek Jungwoo's official site opened on September 14, 2022.

On September 19, additional characters related to Jungwoo was conceptualized with the aim of getting AI voice databases on their own. Names of a few of the members were decided in a twitter poll. Two of their designs were teased on October 8th with the rest being teased again on October 20, illustrated by the same artist as Jungwoo's, sixlightyears. On the same day, xuu revealed he aims to release Jungwoo AI before the end of the year and after his release, xuu will be finding voice providers for the other members.

2023

Xuu first expressed interest in recording a CVCCV Korean voicebank for DeepVocal on January 24 but did not clarify whether Jungwoo or Naoki would receive the bank. It was revealed on the 29th that Jungwoo would be getting the voicebank and that recording for his first pitch, F3 was finished two days later on the 31st.

Originally Amano Naoki's Korean VCCV append for his UTAU voicebank coupled with a new name and new profile. The voicebank is recorded using E_via's Korean VCCV 2.0 reclist. It is a mono-pitch voicebank that is suitable for pop music. It's recommended BPM is 80 ~ 170BPM and it's recommended range is C3 ~ F4.

• Because he was initially a Korean derivative of Amano Naoki he used to share most profile information with Naoki's older pre-2020 profile such as age, birthday, height and weight. A few information were original to this append such as Jungwoo's favorite food being Ramyeon and his career being an idol-trainee.
